My friend drove his 2011 Sequoia into a pole last week. It will only cost him his deductible, but his rates will almost surely go up.
The first picture shows the main impact point. The fog light is also cracked. The second picture shows the newly widened gap between the hood and the right front quarter panel. I think the hood is still true, but the panel is definitely out of shape. The top of the panel, where it joins the A pillar, is also out of whack. The third picture shows the other side of the bumper, along with the cracked fender guard. It’s impossible to tell the amount of damage behind all of the plastic, but he is also reporting a new pull in the steering that wasn’t there before. The fourth picture shows the pole that darted out in front of him so quickly that he didn’t have time to avoid it.
My guess is that this will not be cheap to fix. I’m intrigued to know what the bumper alone costs.

The bumper is probably several hundred, factor in the paint and other issues and it will be over $1000 easy. Unless they find the same color bumper in a parts yard or something.

Considering the cost of the vehicle (north of $45k), I’m guessing a much higher number. Maybe 4x that. I’ll bet that the quarter panel will need to be replaced too. The color is Super White which, I understand, is an expensive color.

I estimate he should give ARB a call...

Ya think? I figured it would be considerably more than that.

It’s a pearl paint isn’t it. ooof . make sure your friend looks at the repaired paint in different lights before accepting it, also, make sure they are using high quality top coats or it will be a very different color in a year.

It would actually be cheaper in the long run.

That was my first guess, but I’m thinking even more. Like $5-6k.

“Super White” is the color.

That’s some weird looking Camry he’s got there.
I was confused at first since those dents are normally in back.

Yeah, I’m going to guess $5k+.

I’ll put it at $6.5k
I backed a friend/fellow Oppo’s BRZ into a fire hydrant, doing somewhat similar levels of damage to the rear end. It also had a pearl white paint, and I know the repair bill was in that $5k ballpark. Being on the front end, and looking like the headlight may need replacing too, I would’t be surprised to see it be as much as I’m guessing or more.

I thought Super White was a straight gloss white. Blizzard Pearl is the pearlescent paint (or at least it was).

I told him that if it was less than $6k I would buy his lunch next week when we meet. I’m thinking north of $6k. That’s a $45k vehicle to begin with.

Could be. I think super white is either pearl or metal flake though. Probably not as hard to match as pearl but not as easy as just gloss white.

That’s what I’m thinking. I told him I’d buy his lunch next week if it’s under $6k. That’s a $45k vehicle.

I’m pretty sure that Super White (040) has been gloss since its introduction (late ‘80s, I believe). Toyota has always used other names for their metallic and pearl whites (Diamond White Pearl and Blizzard Pearl come to mind), unless that has changed in the last few years.

fair enough, all the better for him.

Most people seem to think higher, but I could see it being this low. Figure somewhere south of $1000 for the bumper cover, a few hundred for the fog light, and similar for the wheel well flare (though possibly that will just bend back in to place). The fender probably needs to be replaced or refurbished. I guess the question is how much underlying structure is damaged.

I could see that. It will be interesting to hear the final estimate. I’ll let y’all know.

I’m sure it is. My friend doesn’t go half way. He’s also got an old Four Runner with over 300k miles on it that’s in impeccable shape. I’d buy it if he were selling it.

I’ll go with $3800.00
Why are bodywork repairs so insanely expensive?
I’ll put on my tin foil hat here for a moment...
Are the insurance companies, body repair shops, and maufacturers colluding to charge ridiculous prices to repair body damage? Why do plastic bumpers cost from the hundreds to the thousands to fix? Paint is relatively cheap, plastic parts can’t be too expensive. Yes there’s labor, but we’re not hiring brain surgeons or hedge fund managers here. Why is this all so freaking expensive! I smell a rat and it’s the whole industry.
OK foil hat off......

I dunno, he could probably skip the insurance claim and just do the work himself. I’d say one could get that pole looking new again for about $10.
